34 ict or empi epc carbs
The Dual single throat 34 carbs are far and wide my favorite carbs. They are super simple, reliable and what I have always called “idiot proof”. I have found no functional differences between the weber or empi carbs, both work really well, most builds will be empi unless specified.Theses are the carbs I ran on my girl friends beetle that was a summer daily driver have work flawlessly for the pas 4 years.
There is a couple ticks too these carbs, First off it is very important to run the cross over tube from intake to intake. ( exactly like the factory did with the t3 and t4 single throats) This helps stable the idle. Also, the intake charge is not limited to 2 cylinders. Maximizing the air smooths the idle and full range of the carbs functions.
Another large issue we have over come on these set ups. The terrible cross bar linkage, while great for the big Webers they are a huge disappointment on these. I have made them work but it is not worth the head ach. These carbs are identical, that means both throttle blades turn the same way. Push pull linkages work excellent for this set up, incredible adjustability, smooth operation. German made CSP brand with the additional spring has been my go to and I believe is the best affordable option for theses carbs. The vintage speed also work great but can be hard to obtain in a reasonable amount of time. The CSP price point and throttle feel is hard to beat.
